Introduction

Social media has been spread and used rapidly in the contemporary society, which provides additional modes to people than use the traditional social media. Traditional social media is based on the “paper” objects such as newspaper, journalism and magazines. While the popularity of social media using, the social news sharing also in process at the same time. The forms of social news sharing involve the publishers, the content they post on social media platforms or online web pages, the sharing of social media users and users themselves as well. The genesis of social news sharing is based on the traditional social media and the historical trend of it is demonstrated as the development in communication media and even yet instead of the traditional media. The major companies and publishers are the beneficiaries from social news sharing on political economic sense like wealth earing and enhance their publicity. Nevertheless, the social media users also benefited from social news’ transformative effects in a social sense. The social news sharing also affects my own study deeply due to it could provide me some non-academic knowledge to understand the academic contents through the informal ways. However, it is not all social news sharing is based on the reality, some fake news or impractical opinions may occur at the same time.

Genesis of social news sharing

The social news sharing was evolved through traditional media with the development of high technology and the enthusiasm of news sharing with people. Traditional news sharing is almost based on the ordinary equipment like television and radio, or the paper ones like newspapers. Nowadays, the social news sharing has been developed rapidly and it is more convenient than previous. The genesis of social news sharing innovation is performed obviously from varied new social media. It could be noticed through the internet using, smartphones and computers. The innovation of it is more creative than traditional media and the technical skills been improved deeply as well. In the traditional media, news sharing was limited by newspapers’ editing and flows, users could not choose their interested topics or news of the day (Lee & Ma, 2012). It is the type of sharing pressure for the users, for example, they were supplied by the limited contents. Lee & Ma, (2012) furthermore addressed that “people passively receive news contents delivered in the media channels”. However, after the innovation of social news sharing, the social media communication developed lot. One of the major concept is the close connection between every news sharing users. The social media allows the audiences to customize the choices of news and interact with other users at the same time (Chung, 2008). Recent social news sharing is also as faster as before. The users could edit their posts at any time. The process of posting is done in a short time and then, the posts could be speared around the world within minutes (Lee & Ma, 2012).

To sum up, innovation of media communication provides the creativity and convenience for social media users. The development achieves social news sharing been diffused deeper and more rapid.

Who are benefited from social news sharing?

Most social news sharing is happening on several social media platforms, nowadays. For example, Twitter is as similar as the news posting websites, Facebook is quite like the social communicational media platforms and Instagram is one of the shared social media platform which allows users to post images or videos to other audiences. There are two parts of people who are benefited from social news sharing. Firstly, the main benefit owner of social new sharing could be simplified defined as the publishers with the contents and the huge corporations. Secondly, the sharing through social media users also benefited from social news sharing transformative effect in the social sense.

Publishers & Huge Corporations

The publishers play an essential role in social news sharing, if there were none posts of social news, the sharing would not exist in the field of social media communication. The social media publishers post their opinions, current news, speeches or others to some platforms to achieve their goals. For instance, some YouTube bloggers post social news to platforms to attract audiences to follow them, so that, it could bring some new opportunities to impress more people through likes, sharing or comments. The contents that publishers post on social media is also benefited due to the contents are the fundamental element of posts itself. While the publishers are benefited, the principal companies also achieve the economic values at the same time. The publishers get the connection with users and inspire them to share the news posts to obtain the economic values (Couldry, 2018).

One of the specific examples of Facebook news sharing in 2015 illustrated that Facebook social sharing surpasses Google search indeed (Dwyer & Martin, 2017). For instance, the couple of huge corporations in the present social media communication industry are Facebook and Twitter. For mainstream social news sharing on social media platforms, Twitter, Facebook, Weibo or WeChat is one of the major choices that social media communication users access and achieve social news sharing (Dwyer, T., & Martin, F., 2017). The economic wealth for the digital platforms are the values of data which were left by the access users (Carlson, 2018). On the other words, the social media users clicked on the web pages, advertisements, and news, the platforms gain the clicks rates to earn money.

In conclusion, publishers attract more attention from social news sharing and the followers as well. The benefit for huge corporations is earning economic values through the clicks from the accessing of media users.

Social media users

The social media users as another part of people who are benefited from social news sharing’s transformative effect in the social sense. The users are significant for the publishers since they share the social news to other audiences or not, and this behavior affects the platforms and companies directly. Dwyer & Martin (2017) found that “there were only twenty-four percent audiences in Reuters’ international digital survey did the social news sharing weekly”. However, the sixty per cent of Twitter users in the United of States declared that they shared social news regularly (Rosenstiel, Sonderman, Loker, Ivancin & Kjarval, 2015).

The social media users could catch up the fresh news from social news sharing on different media platforms. For example, Facebook for interaction with friends through chatting online, Instagram for browsing the news feed that friends post on and Twitter is a kind of platform of following the societal issues.

The above image depicts the top five activities on Twitter, Google and Facebook. The findings illustrate two main points:

  • Reading a news story is the most popular on Twitter and Google, which are 42%.
  • The most attractive activity on Facebook is clicked the “like” button.

To sum up, the impacts of social media users are catching the recent news and news feed from friends. Social new sharing also provides the communicational tool for them.

Effects on my study

The effects of social news sharing for my study could be divided into two sides which are positive and negative. Firstly, it is the easy way for me to understand some academic knowledge through browsing the informal social news with relating to the study. Secondly, the innovation from traditional media to social media provides lots of conveniences as well. It is easier to search the scholarly readings online, like the online library so that I do not need to borrow books from the real libraries. Online video as an aspect in social media also affects me to participate in the studying simply. Jenkins (2010) addressed that the participation on the internet is not just the skills performance of social media, it is the specific aspect that could be used on social media education. While the progress of social media, online education became one of the teaching systems in the contemporary learning. Social media leads students to understand deeper through surfing the internet and watching videos.

Nevertheless, the social new sharing may occur one risk in social media communication which is named as fake news. The online information ecosystem brings the primary concept for social media to spread the fake news (Shao, Ciampaglia, Varol, Flammini & Meczer, 2017).

From the rapid sharing news on social media platforms, the fake news could be spread around communication within minutes. Shao, Ciampaglia, Varol, Flammini & Meczer (2017) furthermore stated that social media users focus on the online communication and interaction between each other, so they trust the shared contacts and do not suspect these fake news. The fake news misleads the audiences and even disturbs the sequences of social media safety. Expect the fake news diffusion on social media, social news sharing may limit the deep thinking of audiences due to the reactions under sharing. Such as negative comments could affect users to think in same. If one news post achieved thousands the tagging likes, this may misdirect audiences confused is this really reached the high standards or not.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the genesis of social news is traditional media especially the paper ones. The publishers and the major corporations have benefitted from social news sharing transformative effects in economic sense, and the users follow the daily news through social sharing on several social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Google. It offers the convenient ways for student who use the internet, helps them to searching news. Nevertheless, social news sharing may exist fake news to mislead them sometime.
